JASON LEVERING

HEY, I’M JASON!

I have had a desire to be a writer and a performer nearly all my life. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from Hastings College, where I learned everything you can about creating a production for the stage. I've been blessed to have a career spanning over twenty years as a practicing theatre and film artist, with nearly a decade of progressive playwriting and screenwriting accomplishments.

My love of film led me to helping with the development and founding of the Omaha Film Festival, for which I served as Executive Director for 15 years. I have had the honor to adapt the works of Stephen King, Ingmar Bergman, Dan Chaon, and Oscar Wilde. I worked directly with Chaon to develop a screenplay based on three of his short stories, interweaving the stories into one seamless narrative. I was granted permission by King to adapt his novel The Shining into a play, which then became the first ever approved stage production of that work. My most recent adapted work, a stage version of Bergman’s Persona, was approved by Larah Simpson, Head of Plays at Bergman’s Foundation and Music Theatre International (London). In the last few years, I found my way back on stage as an actor, which is where my passion for theatre began.

As a director, I encourage actors to continue exploring and to strive for authenticity. I love to see bravery in acting choices. I believe that actors should continue making discoveries about themselves and their characters throughout the entire process and even into performance.
